The Special Education Foundation is now accepting nominations for the 3rd Annual Starfish Awards, a heartfelt celebration honoring the unsung heroes of the Special School District who make a difference—one student at a time. The awards ceremony will take place at The Reverie-Chesterfield on June 11, 2026, shining a spotlight on those whose everyday acts of kindness and commitment create lasting impact in the lives of students with disabilities.

We invite you to nominate individuals who go above and beyond to support our students—whether they are special education teachers, general education teachers, paraprofessionals, SSD staff members, or other community partners. These “starfish savers” embody the spirit of compassion, patience, and dedication that transforms lives and inspires others to do the same.

SEF’s Women Leaders is a dynamic group of women dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children and youth with disabilities. Formed in 2009 after a friend-raiser sparked interest in finding meaningful ways to help, the group focuses on funding special projects, including the Starfish Awards, that directly support students served by the Special School District of St. Louis County.
