The Special Education Foundation is looking for middle to high school students on the spectrum. Spots are open for our upcoming winter iSocial cohorts through the Autism Independence Project. Winter break is an ideal time for students to begin—allowing them to ease into the program with fewer academic demands while building skills that will carry into the new year.
Through SEF’s partnership with iSocial, students served by the Special School District have the opportunity to strengthen social competence, increase independence, and expand meaningful life aspirations—all from the comfort of home.
How the Program Works
Middle and high school students are identified through educators and parents based on their interests and needs. Participants must have internet access, basic computer skills, and verbal communication abilities.
Students take part in 32 one-hour evening sessions over 16 weeks, meeting twice each week in small groups of six peers. Led by licensed professionals, sessions are interactive and engaging—featuring role-play, games, contests, and guided video discussions that make learning both effective and fun.
Proven Results
Backed by eight university studies, iSocial has been shown to increase communication skills, social motivation, and overall confidence. Students develop critical skills such as:
- Recognizing facial expressions
- Sharing ideas and taking turns in conversation
- Understanding feelings and emotions
- Strengthening problem-solving skills
“Thank you for the opportunity for my son to be a part of this program,” states Mom. “He was greatly rewarded by the time, attention, and especially to enhance his social skills now and into the future. The instruction was detailed, and specific to his lifestyle and development. The other students in the class were equally as interesting, and the class was enjoyable for him. He hopes for another opportunity if it ever comes up. Thank you for the great experience!”
