For many students with disabilities, Adaptive Equipment is more than a tool—it’s a lifeline to communication, learning, and independence. At the Special Education Foundation (SEF), we understand how vital these supports are, especially as students transition out of the Special School District (SSD) after completing their educational journey.
Thanks to a generous grant from The Tilles Foundation, SEF is proud to offer Adaptive and Assistive Equipment to eligible students aging out of SSD. These students—up to 21 years of age—are often required to leave behind the specialized equipment they used in school. Without these essential devices, transitioning to adulthood and the workforce becomes even more challenging.
“My daughter was able to receive a computer and a recorder. She uses both several times a day. She is able to use all the software and access her studies. She is able to listen to her lectures at home. It is very helpful for operating in the college setting. We are very happy and grateful to SEF and all the help she has had in this way.” ~Happy Mother
To fill this critical gap, SEF offers funding for:
- Augmentative communication devices
- Adaptive technology and equipment
- Audiology tools and eyeglasses
- Other essential tools to enhance independence and quality of life
We are currently accepting final applications for students who completed their final year with SSD in the 2024–2025 school year. The deadline to apply is June 30.
Applications must be initiated by an SSD professional. If your student may qualify, please contact their teacher right away to begin the process. Financial need is a major factor in awarding this support.
Together, we can help students move forward with confidence—equipped for the lives they’re meant to lead.
