As we wrap up another remarkable school year, we want to express our deepest gratitude for your continued dedication to your students. Your work changes lives every single day, and now, as summer begins, we're asking for your help to continue that impact beyond the classroom.
The Special Education Foundation exists exclusively to support you and the incredible students of the Special School District through programs that empower, enrich, and inspire. One of our most impactful programs, the Classroom Innovation Grants, brings your creative teaching ideas to life — funding flexible seating, sensory rooms, special events, and more. These grants are made possible entirely through the generosity of private donations.
Marci Lourie's Sensory Room project at Parkway South Middle School is just one example. Contributions have allowed her to provide her students with an inviting yet calming space. Click the video link below to learn more.
"It has become increasingly apparent that there is a need for durable, soothing equipment and materials to meet the diverse sensory needs of our student population. The space is to provide opportunities to increase regulation in a safe space, with the goal of returning to a classroom to continue with the day. With a well-designed sensory environment, it is a place where students can get their sensory needs met effectively."
In addition, summer is a vital time for our students to continue building confidence and independence. A $250 donation sends one student to camp — giving them an experience full of joy, skill-building, and social connection that they'll carry with them during academic breaks and all year long. Any amount - $25, $50, or $100 - helps as camp tuition has increased and the need for support when students are not in school.
We know the end of the year is busy, but we also know that you care deeply about the students you serve. If you can, please consider donating — in any amount — to the Special Education Foundation today. Every dollar helps us invest in the bright futures of the students we serve together.
Thank you for being the heart of SSD and supporting the work of the Foundation as we strive to enhance the lives of children with disabilities in every way we can.
