As students with disabilities prepare to transition from the Special School District (SSD) to the next stage of their lives, the Special Education Foundation (SEF) is committed to ensuring they have the tools they need to succeed. Our Adaptive & Assistive Equipment Program bridges the gap in perception, communication, and independence by providing vital resources that enhance learning and life beyond the classroom.
Supporting the Journey Forward
With generous funding from The Tilles Foundation, SEF offers financial assistance to students up to 21 years old who are completing their final year with SSD. This program provides essential equipment that empowers students as they move into further education, employment, or independent living.
What We Fund
Our grants help cover the cost of specialized equipment, including:
- Augmentative communication devices – Enhancing verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
- Adaptive equipment – Supporting mobility and daily living activities.
- Technology items – Improving access to educational and professional opportunities.
- Audiology devices and eyeglasses – Available for students of all ages served by SSD to improve hearing and vision.
These resources are more than just tools; they are pathways to greater independence, confidence, and success beyond SSD.
How to Apply
- Applications must be initiated by an SSD professional, such as an SSD teacher.
- Financial need plays a key role in the approval process.
If someone you know is aging out of SSD and requires adaptive equipment, talk to their SSD teacher to begin the application process today.
