The Fred Saigh Leadership Academy recently provided an unforgettable experience for its students with a visit to the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City. This trip offered students a firsthand look at state government in action, giving them the opportunity to tour the historic building, meet with state representatives, and gain insight into the policymaking process.
This visit was a highlight of the program, reinforcing its mission to develop leadership skills, civic engagement, and advocacy among students. Through experiences like this, participants learn how they can play an active role in their communities and beyond.
Orientation and Mobility Specialist Candice Hendrickson joined the group and shared her observations:
“WOW….what a great trip to the capital! Every student seemed well prepared, very interested, very respectful, and as if they enjoyed every aspect of the trip! It was great to see each of the representatives that were able to stop by to visit with the students…as an observer, I am not sure who was more excited, the student or the representative! It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone including myself! Thank you for allowing me to travel along!”
SEF Board Member Sekhar Nadella also attended the trip:
“It was a memorable experience for me, as it was my first visit to the capital and watching the session. I’m eagerly looking forward to joining future sessions.”
