The Fred Saigh Leadership Academy had an exciting, behind-the-scenes experience at KMOV Channel 4 in Maryland Heights earlier this month, where they gained firsthand insight into the fast-paced world of broadcast journalism. During their visit, the students attended a live taping of Great Day St. Louis, which featured a special segment on the Super Bowl. They observed the intricate coordination required for a successful live production and had the opportunity to ask in-depth questions about editing, production workflows, and the preparation involved in delivering a seamless broadcast.
Their experience extended beyond the studio floor as they explored a second studio, where they witnessed a demonstration of the green screen technology used in weather forecasting. The students were fascinated by the digital magic that brings weather reports to life.
For those interested in pursuing journalism, the visit provided valuable guidance on getting started in the field. A highlight of the day was an exclusive session with News Director Scott Diener, who offered insights into the station’s operations, from editorial decision-making to sales and business strategies.
The students left the experience inspired and grateful, gaining a deeper appreciation for the teamwork and technical expertise that drive the news industry.
