Leadership is more than just a title—it’s about taking initiative, inspiring others, and making a difference in the community. The Fred Saigh Leadership Academy is designed to equip high school students with disabilities with the essential skills, confidence, and experiences needed to become leaders in their schools and beyond.
Since its inception in 2004 and through support from The Saigh Foundation, the Leadership Academy has provided a transformative learning experience for students seeking to expand their leadership potential. Each year, up to 20 high school students are selected to participate in this immersive, year-long program focused on community engagement, leadership training, and personal development.
A Year of Growth and Leadership Development
Throughout the year, students engage in monthly excursions to significant sites across the metropolitan area, where they meet influential leaders and learn firsthand how communities function. These are not just field trips—they are curated experiences designed to expose students to real-world leadership and civic engagement. This week, the students will be given a tour of the Channel 4 KMOV newsroom and are visiting the Saigh Foundation to present checks from September’s car wash fundraiser.
The academy’s curriculum is carefully structured to develop essential leadership skills, including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and decision-making. By tackling real-world challenges and participating in training sessions, students gain the confidence to run for school leadership positions, lead impactful projects, and advocate for positive change within their communities.
