Keeping Kids Warm This Winter

Winter is a magical season for many, filled with visions of ice skating, skiing, and building snowmen—joyful activities made possible by warm clothes and cozy layers. However, for many children, especially those with disabilities, this season is a time of hardship rather than holiday fun, as they often face the winter chill without appropriate coats or gear to keep them warm and safe.

Students with disabilities face unique challenges when it comes to winter clothing. Standard coats are often inadequate, as many children need specific styles, adaptive features, and precise sizes to meet their physical and sensory needs. This can make finding appropriate winter gear not only costly but also complex. Without the right winter coats and accessories, these children may be unable to join in outdoor activities, risking isolation as they remain indoors for safety.

To support these students, the Special Education Foundation (SEF) is collaborating with the Special School District through the Critical Needs Coat Drive. Now through January 10, 2025, SEF is accepting monetary donations to provide winter coats that suit the specific requirements of students with disabilities.

Your contribution, no matter the amount, will ensure that each child receives a coat tailored to their needs, allowing them to stay warm, participate in winter activities, and experience the season to the fullest.

Join us in keeping kids across St. Louis County warm this winter. Together, we can make a meaningful difference by helping these children receive the warmth and comfort they need. Only monetary donations are accepted this year to ensure each student’s individual needs are met efficiently and effectively.
