Who do you Know?

The Special Education Foundation is looking for our next recipients of the Starfish Award - individuals who create significant, lasting change through small but meaningful actions. We are looking for individuals who consistently demonstrate compassion and kindness, making a profound impact on the lives of students and families in the Special School District and its 22 partner districts in St. Louis County. They offer crucial support during difficult times, and their actions ripple outward, creating a positive, nurturing environment for all.

The Starfish Award: Celebrating Small Actions That Have a Big Impact

Submit your nomination(s) beginning on Friday, October 18!

Qualities of a Starfish Award Recipient:

  • Consistently shows unwavering compassion and kindness.
  • Makes a remarkable difference in the lives of students and families.
  • Provides essential support during challenging circumstances.
  • Inspires a ripple effect of positivity throughout the community.

The Story Behind the Starfish Award

The Starfish Award takes its inspiration from the story of a boy on the beach, throwing starfish back into the ocean one by one. When a man told him he couldn't possibly make a difference with so many starfish, the boy picked up another one, threw it into the surf, and simply said, "I made a difference to that one." This story highlights the power of small actions and their ability to create lasting change, a principle embodied by the Starfish Award recipients.
