Each September, the Fred Saigh Leadership Academy class organizes a Car Wash fundraiser, an experience that proves both empowering and inspiring. The event gives these students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in teamwork, communication, and responsibility.
Over $800 was raised this year - a new record!
Parents, educators, and others that participated were thrilled to see the students embrace their roles—washing cars, drying windows, and interacting with customers. Some students experienced washing cars for the very first time.
Beyond raising funds for school programs, the car wash served as a platform for building confidence and enhancing social skills, vital for future independence.
One parent commented, “It’s amazing to see them engage with the community in such a meaningful way. This kind of experience goes far beyond the classroom.”
The Leadership class chooses three charities each year as a group and proceeds go towards the charities they have selected:
- The American Cancer Society
- The Deaf Teen Club
- The Bennett Project (support to children with pediatric cancer)

The fundraiser was a success, with many locals showing up to support the students, reinforcing the message that these young individuals are capable of achieving great things when given the chance. Learn more about the Fred Saigh Leadership Academy and the upcoming schedule of sessions.
