SEF Recognized by Andrew’s Hugs

The Special Education Foundation is delighted to share exciting news from a recent community event that highlights the power of local partnerships and generosity. On Friday, July 26th, SEF board member Todd Streff, Programs and Communications Manager Shannon Benedek, and Events Manager Jill Salinas attended the Andrew's Hugs Day held at Friendship Brewing Company in Wentzville. This event was a testament to the remarkable impact that dedicated organizations can have on the lives of individuals with special needs.

Andrew’s Hugs was created in memory of Andrew Norton, who had Prader-Willi Syndrome, a chromosomal disorder that affected him mentally and physically. Despite these challenges, Andrew lived a full and happy life, thanks to his involvement with Adult Recreation through Community Living, Special Olympics, and his job at BCI.

After his passing, Andrew's family recognized that many others like Andrew lacked the opportunities he enjoyed. They established Andrew’s Hugs to change that, naming the organization after Andrew’s signature way of greeting people—with a hug that could brighten anyone’s day.

Andrew loved having fun, but adults with disabilities often face barriers to enjoying life’s simple pleasures. Andrew’s Hugs raises funds to support organizations that help overcome these challenges, ensuring that people with disabilities can live their best lives every day.

We are thrilled to announce that SEF was among the recipients of Andrew's Hugs' generosity. SEF was awarded a $10,000 donation, which will significantly bolster our efforts to provide resources, support, and opportunities for students with special needs. This contribution will enable us to enhance our programs and continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.

SEF extends its heartfelt gratitude to Andrew's Hugs for their generous donation and their ongoing dedication to supporting adults with special needs. We look forward to continuing our partnership and working together to create a more inclusive and supportive community.
