Women Leaders - Shared Commitment to Making a Difference

The Special Education Foundation Women Leaders is an active and dedicated group committed to supporting children and youth with disabilities. Specifically, they focus on funding special projects that benefit students with disabilities served by the Special School District of St. Louis County. Established in 2009, the group was formed in response to guests’ interests at a friend-raiser event, where they expressed a desire to make a difference.

This year, the Women Leaders are proud to introduce the Starfish Awards event, an accolade designed to honor individuals who have made significant changes through small yet profoundly meaningful actions. Inspired by the Starfish story, SEF’s Women Leaders created a way to celebrate the extraordinary impact that selected individuals from the Special School District have had on students served by the district. The Starfish Award celebrates those whose dedication and kindness create a lasting legacy, touching the lives of many and inspiring us all.

Over the years, the Women Leaders have organized a variety of events, including fashion shows, to raise funds for special projects such as Principal Grants which supporting students with disabilities. In May 2023, they successfully participated in the Give STL Day fundraiser, securing resources for the upcoming school year. Thanks to private donations and community support, they surpassed their annual goal, raising over $10,000.

If you or someone you know is passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and youth with disabilities, we invite you to join our dynamic group of Women Leaders.
