Volunteering is a powerful way to give back to the community, and the Special Education Foundation (SEF) offers a variety of opportunities for those looking to make a meaningful impact. Whether you have a few hours a week or can dedicate more time, there’s a role for everyone. Below are some of the key volunteer opportunities available at SEF. If one of these roles resonates with you, please complete this form to get involved.

Special Events & Community Outreach

Volunteers are essential in helping SEF plan and execute a range of special events and community outreach programs. From our annual Dan McLaughlin Charity Golf Tournament & Auction, to our Starfish Awards, and other community events, your organizational skills and enthusiasm can help raise awareness and funds for SEF's mission. Tasks may include event setup, registration, coordinating activities, and engaging with attendees to share SEF’s goals and achievements.

Women Leaders

This initiative seeks women who are passionate about advocating for special education and supporting children with special needs. Over the years, the Women Leaders have organized various events, including fashion shows, to raise funds in support of special project ideas that support students with disabilities. In May 2023, they successfully utilized the Give STL Day fundraiser to gather resources for the 2023-2024 school year. This June, the Women Leaders have organized the inaugural Starfish Awards event, where SEF will honor special individuals who have made a significant impact through their seemingly small, yet profoundly meaningful actions.

Focused on driving change within the education system, this group is an excellent opportunity for women to lead by example and inspire others in the community.

Fundraisers

Fundraising is a crucial component of SEF's ability to support special education programs. Volunteers in this role can help organize and promote fundraising events such as online campaigns, obtaining sponsorships for events, or collecting auction items for the golf tournament. You can also assist with grant writing and developing partnerships with local businesses. Your creativity and dedication can help generate the resources needed to support SEF’s initiatives.

Interns

For students and young professionals, interning with SEF provides hands-on experience in the non-profit sector. Interns can work in various departments, including preparations for mailings and event planning. This is a fantastic way to gain valuable skills while contributing to a worthy cause.
