Who do you know ready to take their leadership skills to the next level? We are looking for more students to apply for next year’s Fred Saigh Leadership Academy. The deadline to apply is April 12, 2024.
Since its inception in fall 2004, the Fred Saigh Leadership Academy has been igniting leadership potential within high school students, moving them through experiences beyond the classroom and into community engagement and growth.
Each year, up to 20 students embark on a transformative journey, delving into a curriculum meticulously crafted to nurture and cultivate their innate leadership skills. Through hands-on involvement in community issues, they not only learn but actively contribute to shaping a better tomorrow.
This week, the class visited the Holocaust Museum to learn how what happened during this tragic period relates to our lives today. Their mission is to use the history and lessons of the Holocaust to reject hatred, promote understanding, and inspire change.
Taylor Owens of Horton Watkins High School shares her thoughts on the experience:
“I thought is was really educational and would like to come back on my own to learn even more. It was nice to hear feedback from survivors in the videos-hearing it from themselves and not just from the tour guide.”
As the program draws to a close, participants are emerging as empowered leaders, equipped with the tools and confidence to enact change within their respective schools. They don't just return; they come back ready to put forth initiatives, rally support, and assume leadership roles in their educational environments.
