Final Week to Nominate a Starfish Award Candidate

There’s still time to recognize someone whose quiet acts of kindness have made a powerful difference. The final week to submit nominations for the 3rd Annual  Starfish Awards is here, and we invite you to help us shine a light on those who go above and beyond for students with disabilities.

The Starfish Award honors individuals who create meaningful change through seemingly small but deeply impactful actions. These are the people who consistently demonstrate compassion, offer support during challenging moments, and leave a lasting impression on the students and families they serve across the Special School District and its 22 partner districts in St. Louis County. Their dedication creates a ripple effect of positivity, helping build a more supportive and inclusive community for all.

“It’s such an awesome job and I love to get to know the kids and their lives,” states Katie. “The more we can be an example to our kids, it just helps the world be a better place.”

Who Should Be Nominated?

Ideal nominees are individuals who work with or support students with disabilities—whether as employees, volunteers, or partners—often behind the scenes and without seeking recognition. They are known for their kindness, initiative, and unwavering commitment, and they have made a meaningful, positive impact in the lives of students and families.

If you know someone whose everyday actions truly matter, now is the time to tell their story. Submit your Starfish Award nomination by Friday, December 19 and help us recognize those who make a difference for students with disabilities.
