The Special Education Foundation (SEF) is now accepting teacher nominations and student applications for its annual Scholarship Program through January 30, 2026! These scholarships support graduating students of the Special School District of St. Louis County who have received special education or technical education services and plan to continue their education at a college, trade school, or certification program.
These scholarships include:
- The John Cary Scholarship (established in 2016) — awarded to students who demonstrate resilience, courage, determination, and well-rounded achievement.
- The Jane Vickrey Leadership Scholarship (established in 2025) — awarded to one student who has completed the Fred Saigh Leadership Academy and who embodies kindness and community-minded leadership.
- The Christopher Davis Scholarship — awarded to a deserving student from the Ritenour School District, in memory of Christopher Davis.
Eligibility includes graduating students receiving SSD services and planning to attend a community college, university, trade school, or other credential-granting institution.
Accepting Nominations & Applications — Now Through January 30, 2026
Teacher nominations: Educators may nominate students who meet the eligibility criteria and exemplify the values of the scholarships.
Student applications: Students graduating from SSD-served programs and planning further education are encouraged to apply.
Why act now?
This is your chance to ensure a deserving student receives recognition and financial support for their post-secondary journey. Early nomination/application helps the selection committee review fully and award with meaningful ceremony recognition in April. By participating, teachers, families, and community advocates play a direct role in lifting students with disabilities toward independent, meaningful futures.
If you are a family member, educator, or community partner, save the date for April 16, 2026 and plan to support these students publicly at the Inspiring Futures celebration.
Let’s all come together this year to uplift our students, shine a spotlight on their achievements, and help them step confidently into the next chapter of their lives. Apply today!
