Classroom Innovation Grants —Impacting Students Across St. Louis County

classroom full of desks and a chalkboard

Since 2002, SEF’s Classroom Innovation Grants have empowered teachers of students with disabilities to bring their creative ideas to life—ideas that might not be possible through traditional school funding. These grants help educators design and implement hands-on, engaging projects that enhance learning, independence, and inclusion in the classroom.

Julie LackeyOccupational Therapist at Walter Ambrose Family Center in the Webster Groves School District, implements her Jumpin’ at the Chance to Move project. The grant funds were used to purchase trampolines for individual classrooms to use as a motor "gym" area in the classroom for kiddos who use movement to regulate.

This allowed for children to stay in the room and be taught in the moment as well as limit transitions which are difficult for many of their kids.

Julie shares more about the purpose of her project and the benefit of using trampolines with her students. Click here to see the video.

By supporting innovative teaching methods, SEF ensures that students with disabilities have access to meaningful educational experiences. Many of these projects also serve as models for other educators, expanding their positive impact across the district. SEF is now accepting Classroom Innovation Grant applications for the 2026–2027 school year through February 28, 2026.
