One of the Foundation’s signature programs is its Fred Saigh Youth Leadership Program for high school students who demonstrate leadership potential in school and their communities. The students first program activity is a car wash. This year it is taking place from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2014, at the Special School District Central Office, just east of Ballas on Clayton Road.
This event not only forms the bonds of lasting friendship among the classmates, but also raises money for St. Louis charities. Each student researches a specific charity and presents the information to the group for a joint decision regarding which charities to support. They shop together for useful items for those served by the charities. That might include toys for holiday gifts or warm hats and gloves. They deliver the gifts to the charities in December. In 2013, students made donations to four children’s charities in the metropolitan area: Special Olympics, Gateway 180, Operation Shower and Marygrove.
The students have fun during all aspects of the process and also learn the joy of giving firsthand. Come out September 27 to support the students. You’ll go away with a clean car and a full heart!
