Michael Hingson, renowned speaker and No.1 best-selling author, was guest speaker for the Special Education Foundation Fred Saigh Youth Leadership Program‘s 10-year reunion June 5, 2014, at St. Luke’s Hospital Emerson Auditorium. More than 150 students, teachers and family members attended the reunion.
Following the Michael Hingson presentation, several of the Fred Saigh Leadership graduates spoke to the audience about the powerful influence that the youth leadership program had upon their success in school, in college and in the world of work. All attributed their achievements directly to the experiences and knowledge derived from the year-long training endeavor.
Hingson also spoke at “Celebrating Character Through Adversity: An Evening with Michael Hingson” on June 4, 2014, at Hilton St. Louis Frontenac. KMOX radio host Charlie Brennan served as master of ceremonies.
Michael Hingson, blind since birth, was thrust into the international limelight on September 11, 2001, when he and his guide dog Roselle led others to safety down 78 flights of stairs in Tower One of the World Trade Center shortly before its collapse. Hingson relates an inspirational story of the importance of teamwork, integrity and courage needed to survive in crisis situations. He had a successful 27-year tenure in computer sales and management prior to establishing the Michael Hingson Group, where he is currently president. He resides with his wife Karen and his 11th support dog Africa in California. Hingson has authored three best-selling books.
The Special Education Foundation’s Fred Saigh Youth Leadership Program celebrates 10 years of preparing high school students with disabilities to return to their schools and communities better prepared to campaign for school office, manage school projects and assume leadership roles in schools and communities. The program produces outstanding young leaders.
